It's hard to believe that it's been almost seven years since Rihanna burst onto the pop scene. Since her debut in 2005 with "Pon de Replay," she's appeared on Billboard's Pop Songs chart a whopping 34 times.
That makes Ri-Ri the top pop artist from the past twenty years! The 34 chart appearances include 21 Top 10 singles and nine #1 hits. Fellow pop star and gal pal Katy Perry tied the "Umbrella" singer with nine chart toppers of her own.
However, Rihanna's relatively late emergence in the twenty-year time frame makes it even more impressive that she rocketed above pop mainstays P!nk (at #2), and Britney Spears (#3).
The saucy songstress mentioned the honor to her 26 million Twitter followers, saying, "Billboard crowned me #1 Top 40 artist of the decade just [seven] years into this!! My fans just majorly shat on ur existence."
Despite having already conquered the charts, there's no sign the 24-year-old is slowing down. Her latest single "Diamonds" just debuted at #1 on the UK and France charts.
