It’s no secret that the beauty product industry exaggerates the effectiveness of products, but a recent L’Oreal skin cream ad with Rachel Weisz went too far, according to UK government officials.
According to Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson, the Revitalift Repair 10 product “misleadingly exaggerated” what it could actually do for consumers.
Swinson sought to make an example of the L’Oreal advertisement in an attempt to hold beauty product companies accountable for the pressure they put on the public to look flawless.
“It's not purely about women, there's big pressures on men as well. It's not purely a feminist issue. Along with these idealized images there is also a very pervasive message that what matters for women is how they look."
