Pete Wentz Details Depression and Prescription Drug Abuse in Rolling Stone

Though fame and fortune found him early in life, Pete Wentz recently opened up about how his life went into a downward spiral beginning in 2009.

The Fall Out Boy rocker found the transition difficult after the band took a hiatus in that year and his divorce from Ashlee Simpson in 2011 made things even worse.

Revealing an abuse of the prescription drugs Xanax and Klonopin, the 33-year-old bassist explained to Rolling Stone, "I was probably physically and mentally addicted. It started from insomnia and anxiety from flying, then it spiraled."

No longer ashamed of his struggles, he added, "I felt like a loser already. I'd basically gone from being the guy in Fall Out Boy to being the guy, who, like, hangs out all day. I didn't see how I'd ever come out on the other side."

Finally having emerged on the other side, Pete attributes his success to regular therapy and his 4-year-old son, Bronx.

Sharing how his little boy kept him going, Mr. Wentz said, "You're up in the morning, and you have to really be there. It's not like getting up for a radio interview. In some ways, that was super helpful for my soul."
