After being locked up since July 30, actress Nikki Blonsky’s father Carl was released from jail yesterday (August 11) after posting $3,000 bail awarded to him by the Chief Justice.
The Hairspray actress and her father were arrested after their participation in an airport brawl with America’s Next Top Model contestant Bianca Golden and her mother Elaine.
According to press reports, the fighting began as a result of an altercation over saved seats in the departure lounge. Elaine Golden was critically injured in the scuffle and is undergoing treatment for temporary paralysis in her left side.
Mr. Blonsky was charged with a felonious charge of grievous bodily harm and must remain on the island. His travel documents have been in police custody since he was initially denied bail on August 8th.
Meanwhile, Blonsky family lawyer Michael Griffith tells press: “I want to clear Nikki's name. All her father did was step into the fight to try to break it up."
As a result of the scuffle, Mr. Blonsky is due in court August 19th. Nikki (who is due in court in December) and Bianca (who is due in court in September) were also charged with actual bodily harm and both are released on bail.
