Welcoming a newcomer to the top spot for the first time in the past month, "New Year's Eve" found itself perched atop the box office over the weekend of December 9-11, 2011.

The star-studded Garry Marshall directed "Valentine's Day" followup pulled in $5 million on Friday and $5.3 million on Saturday while expected to garner a lower than predicted total of $13.8 million during its opening weekend of release.

Situated in the runner-up slot is a fellow theatrical newcomer "The Sitter," as the Jonah Hill fronted comedy caper nabbed $7.8 million during its first two days of release while trending towards an approximate $10 million weekend take.

Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated weekend totals were last weekend's frontrunner "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" ($8 million), followed by family film "The Muppets" ($7.2 million) and the Sarah Smith directed animated holiday tale "Arthur Christmas" ($6.5 million).
