Josh Groban Talks Smooching Emma Stone
Transitioning from the music world to the big screen, Josh Groban is featured in the comedy issue of GQ to coincide with the release of his new movie "Crazy, Stupid, Love".
During the GQ chat, the "You Raise Me Up" singer hit on topics including getting cast in a romantic comedy, kissing Emma Stone, and his fans.
Highlights from Josh's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit GQ!
On landing the role as Emma Stone’s boorish boyfriend in Crazy Stupid Love:
“After one reading, the casting director said, ‘Oh, my God, you’re just perfect.’ I was really excited for a moment. Then it dawned on me: I just nailed the douchebag character. I guess I had it in me all along.”
On his kiss with Emma Stone (which got cut from the movie):
“After one of our scenes, the directors said, ‘This is feeling a little goofy. Let’s try this with a kiss at the end.’ And I thought, ‘Holy shit.’ I’ve never kissed on-camera before. What do I have to do? I didn’t take that class in college. And Emma’s just this total pro. She pulls out her lip gloss and says, ‘It’s cherry. That cool with you?’ That kiss shall forever be my deer in Stand by Me. It’s my moment alone. No one but me will ever be able to treasure it.”
On how his fans call themselves “Grobanites”:
“I remember there were some worse options. At one point Joshiphile was being pushed forward and I was like Guys, ick-snay on the ile-phay. Anything with -ile at the end of it just seems somewhat criminal. A lot of the names sounded like diseases. Grobanite, makes me think of a type of harmless crustacean. I'm happy with it.”
