She never seems to be able to escape people talking about her weight, even as she nears the end of her pregnancy. But the latest dig caused Jessica Simpson to slyly take a jab back through Twitter.
The expecting "Fashion Star" mentor encouraged her Twitter fans to pick up a copy of her nude Elle magazine cover before it gets pulled from newsstands, but within the encouraging tweet was an encrypted message for a host on "The View".
"Last chance to see me "fat" aka PREGNANT on the cover of Elle :)" Simpson tweeted, adding, "I loved this shoot, only on stands for a few more days!!!"
Throwing quotations around the word fat followed by the capitalization of pregnant was a clear shot at "The View" co-host Joy Behar, who dogged Jessica for her weight gain during her pregnancy.
Behar tried to crack a joke during Tuesday's episode, saying, "Remember the time that Jessica Simpson was criticized because she didn't know the difference between chicken and tuna? That kind of thing is more fun to criticize than the fact that the girl is fat, most women who are pregnant are not supposed to gain more than 25 pounds. She looks like she gained a lot more than that."
Although Jess seemed to play off the nasty dig by laughing it off, other stars took Behar's jab more seriously.
After the incident, Tori Spelling told Celebuzz, "When women are pregnant, people need to lay off. It's a really special time and you should be able to deal with it in your own terms."
When the topic came up on the "Today" show with Matt Lauer and Sarah Palin, the former presidential candidate immediately got defensive, saying, "I would have wanted to punch [Jessica's critics] in the neck, It's none of anybody else's business how much weight I would gain."
Jessica and fiance Eric Johnson are expecting their first child later this spring.
