Ja Rule
He’s been locked up in a New York correctional facility since July 2011, but as of this week Ja Rule is a free man again.
Originally sentenced to two years in the clink, the chart-topping rapper managed to get out of Ray Brook Federal Prison a couple months early thanks to good luck and good behavior.
After not paying income taxes on more than $3 million dollars in earnings, Ja Rule was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison earlier today (July 18).
The “Superstar” rapper (real name Jeffrey Atkins) admitted to not ponying up to Uncle Sam on his earnings between 2004 and 2006, which led to the time behind bars and a required payment of $1.1 million in back taxes and fees.
He’s got two years behind bars ahead of him, and Ja Rule began his sentence by turning himself in this morning (June 8).
The “Always on Time” rapper was arrested back in 2007 after police found a loaded semi-automatic .40 caliber handgun in his Maybach automobile. The serial number had been filed off the gun.
Back in 2007 he was found to have a loaded gun while riding in a friend’s car, and finally Ja Rule has been sentenced to two years in prison.
The “Always on Time” rapper (real name Jeffrey Atkins) looked worried as he walked out of Manhattan Supreme Court, mumbling, “This isn’t a good day, fellas.”
