Harry Styles slept on a mattress in Ben Winston's attic for two years.
The 23-year-old singer was looking to move into a property in Hampstead Heath in London, but he asked the film producer whether he could stay at his nearby abode for a short time while the finishing touches were put to the deal for his new house.
Ben explained: "Two weeks later and he hadn't bought his house yet. It wasn't going through. Then he said, 'I'm going to stay until Christmas, if you don't mind.' Then Christmas came, and ..."
Harry - who became a global star during his time in One Direction - actually ended up living with Ben and his wife Meredith for the next 20 months, even though fans of the heartthrob would still gather outside the empty property where he didn't actually live.
Ben told Rolling Stone magazine: "Those 20 months were when they went from being on a reality show, 'X Factor', to being the biggest-selling artists in the world.

The One Direction singer will play his first solo single 'Sign of the Times', when he appears on the comedy sketch show on Saturday (04.08.17) and, according to Billboard, he will also treat fans to one more new track from his upcoming album.

The 23-year-old singer makes up was one quarter of the 'Drag Me Down' hitmakers alongside Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson and he insists the group - which previously included fifth member Zayn Malik - are highly likely to get back together at some point, despite the four of them currently pursuing solo projects since the boy band went on hiatus from the start of 2016.
He said: "I think the thing that's really cool about it is, you know, we all went through that together and it's like you know, something that we'll always have in common. I don't think any of us will ever rule out anything in the future. You know, it was a huge part of our lives and I think now it's really cool to kind of have everyone go and write what they want to put out as themselves, I think that's something really cool you know. It's the band, it's one thing. And when it's all together it's that and then I think it's interesting to get to see everyone kind of explore their own tastes as well."

According to E! News, the 20-year-old model and her 21-year-old ex-boyfriend have been spending time together on the Eastern Caribbean island of Anguilla and were spotted having a meal together on Tuesday (December 29).
Wrapping up their On The Road Again North American tour, the members of One Direction offered up some heartfelt gratitude on Saturday night (September 12).
Harry Styles took to his Twitter account following his band’s gig at Gillette Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts, stating, “Thank you Boston. That was the perfect way to wrap up the U.S. Tour.
