After six years with the Los Angeles Galaxy, David Beckham has announced his retirement from Major League Soccer (November 20).
Instead, the 37-year-old athlete said he hopes to remain affiliated with the U.S. league as part of the ownership structure.
In a statement, Becks welcomed the transition, saying, "In my time here I have seen the popularity of the game grow every year. I’ve been fortunate to win trophies, but more important to me has been the fantastic reception I’ve had from fans in L.A. and across the States. Soccer’s potential has no limits in this wonderful country and I want to always be part of growing it.”
However, just because he'll be leaving American fields doesn't man his soccer career is over. Several leading clubs are ready to make him an offer, including
Russia, China, and Brazil, while Australia has expressed great interest in having him play Down Under.
