Wednesday, April 25, 2007 Willie Nelson Walks Free From Pot Charges
Willie Nelson breathed a big sigh of relief in a courtroom yesterday, as he and his tour manager were spared jail time after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of marijuana possession. According to CBS reports, “Nelson and tour manager David Anderson, along with Nelson’s sister, Bobbie Nelson, and two drivers, were issued citations on September 18 after state troopers said they found marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms on the country legend’s tour bus during a commercial-vehicle inspection on Interstate 10.” While there was no jail time involved, State District Judge Paul deMahy fined Nelson and Anderson $1,024 each and put the two on probation for 6 months. Being a good brother, Willie got his sister’s charges dropped with his plea agreement. ShowBuzz also noted that the citations against the two drivers were dismissed because there was no indication they “had anything to do with the contraband.” After Nelson’s sentencing in the small southern Louisiana town, a crowd of about 25 fans gathered outside to wait for the entertainer to emerge from the courthouse. When the country crooner did leave, he ended up shaking hands, signing scraps of paper and posing for photographs. “Thank y’all,” he said, waving as he climbed into a waiting car.
