Friday, July 24, 2009 Whitney Houston: On the Comeback Trail
Whitney Houston is back! The singer will be dropping her album in six weeks and is extremely thrilled. She took stage last night at her VIP-only album listening party in Beverly Hills, saying, “I’m back home. I’m back home where I belong.” Attending the VIP show in the ballroom were Halle Berry, Stevie Wonder, Magic Johnson, Barry Manilow, Penny Marshall, model Beverly Johnson, as well as well as the music industry squad. The guests were able to hear nine songs from her album, I Look to You. Jane Fonda sat front row with her boyfriend and music producer Richard Perry. “When they told me you were here tonight, I almost croaked,” Houston said to the Oscar winner after the two embraced. “I was like, ‘Jane Fonda is at my listening party? How cool am I?’” Sony’s own Clive Davis was there, who discovered Houston, and hosted the night. “And Ms. Whitney looked fantastically fabulous last night(wearing a little black dress, heels and little makeup).” Houston kept true to her music. Among the songs, Davis introduce and performed for the crowd were the Alicia Keys, “Million Dollar Bill, “Nothing But Love,” “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength,” and a song duet with Akon called, “Like I never Left.” The album took about three and a half years to make, and it was well worth it because the audience went nuts. “For the years we were apart, I felt kind of lost,” Houston said to Davis, referring to her troubled past. “But I’m home where I truly belong, don’t ya think?” Houston pointed to daughter Bobbi-Kristina, smiling, “There’s my baby, my inspiration. Mama loves you so much.”
