Sunday, March 09, 2008 Top UN Official Criticizes Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse found herself in a bit of a snafu after a shopping trip to the local grocery store in London on Sunday (March 9). After picking up a few items and taking a taxi home, the Grammy winning singer reportedly had to plead with the driver because “she was unable to find any cash to pay for the fare.” Meanwhile, the Rehab crooner also found herself under attack by the United Nations’ anti-drugs chief, who said that she and Kate Moss help fuel problems in Africa by allegedly taking drugs. Antonio Maria Costa told press during a Sunday interview, “Coke-snorting fashionistas are not only damaging their noses and their brains - they are contributing to state failure on the other side of the world.” Costa continued: “Amy Winehouse might adopt a defiant pose and slur her way through ‘Rehab’ but does she realize the message she sends to others who are vulnerable to addiction and who cannot afford expensive treatment? Are such stars who flaunt their drug use aware of the damage caused by the trafficking of cocaine from South America via Africa to Europe?” In response, Winehouse’s spokesman, Chris Goodman, described Costa as a ludicrous man, saying: “Amy has never given a quote about drugs or flaunted it in any way. She’s had some problems and is trying to get better. The UN should get its own house in order.” Enjoy the pictures of Amy out shopping and discussing her cab fare with the driver (March 9).
