Monday, December 15, 2008 Tom Cruise Premieres “Valkyrie” in NYC
Ready to bring his WWII flick to theaters around the world, Tom Cruise was front-and-center at the New York City premiere of “Valkyrie” on Monday evening (December 15). Held at Rose Hall, Cruise looked suave in a studly grey suit as he mingled with fellow attendees before heading inside for the movie’s showing. Meanwhile, over the past few days, the “Top Gun” stud has been busy promoting his new film, which opens in theaters on Christmas Day, recently relating his religion to “Valkyrie”. Cruise tells, “I’ve studied many, many religions and I think the way that I was raised … I was always raised to have an open mind and to be able to think for myself and for me looking at this society where of course under that tyranny, where you must … that’s why [Hitler’s oath] … I read the oath. It was so bizarre to me to just blindly swear to follow one person and, where … I’m raised and I believe to question life and authority and find out what is true for you.” Continuing on, Tom adds, “And it took a bit, a lot of discussion, we were going to back and forth, to really grasp what that must’ve been like, what that society must’ve been like, and I’m glad that we have it at the opening of the film because it kind of puts into perspective what was drilled in, part of the inculcation of ‘Don’t think for yourself, just follow blindly these edicts.’ And I think what’s interesting to me is that this was a man who, by all accounts, did have the ability to rise above that, and did have the ability to think for himself and see a level of humanity and society and democracy, that I just found very compelling.” Enjoy the pictures from the New York City premiere of “Valkyrie” (December 15).

COMMENTS Hmmm . . a group that blindly and unquestioningly follows the edicts of its leader? Surely anyone who’s not a brainwashed cultie can see the irony in how well that describes the adherents of Cruise’s chosen ‘faith’, $cientology . . . . where the drug-addled words of Lafayette “Ron” Hubbard are considered gospel, but his followers are not to touch psychoactive chemicals . . . where the only conceivable way one could not accept these ramblings is if there is a “misunderstood word” . . . No freedom of thought going on there. And the $cientologists know from propaganda - if you want to completely control people, Hubbard said, offer them total freedom. The masters of doublespeak and deception! Posted by Wu Kapauw on 12/15 at 10:09 PM
Hey! I’m one of the guys with Tom (http://www.gossipgirls.com/tom-cruise/photo/tom-cruise-88?profile=82812) and I just wanted to say thanks to the big guy himself. He was really cool! Here’s what happened: To have a little fun and possibly catch Tom’s eye, my buddies and I wore T O M ! in tape on our shirts (notice the ! on the shirt to Tom’s left). We weren’t really sure what would happen and we had to wait for quite a while; but when he came out, it worked immediately! He noticed us, came over; and he said, with a little laugh, “Okay, that’s really cool.” He then shook all of our hands and said a quick “Hello.” On his way out, we all shouted “Thank you Tom!” and he gave us a thumbs up. I could tell he got a kick out of us. Maybe he wasn’t too thrilled with the paparazzi; but he still appreciated us dumb, young guys, T O M ! across our shirts, just having fun. All in all, he was simply a nice guy; and considering it’s Tom Cruise, how cool is that? Posted by on 12/16 at 02:16 AM
