Thursday, April 05, 2007 Tobey Maguire’s Sticky Fingers
Tobey Maguire gave a glimpse into his past during a recent interview with Parade magazine. The “Spider-Man” star talked about his upbringing, emphasizing how he was careful with his money when he made it in Hollywood.
The sticky-fingered actor refused to lavish upon himself, even when his box-office take sky-rocketed, because of his modest upbringing.
Tobey told Parade magazine: “When I first started being successful at this, financially speaking, I was very conservative with my money. That was definitely a product of my upbringing. You know those Lotto winners who win big and then blow all the money? That would never happen to me.” Maguire’s parents were only 18 and 20-years-old when he was born, and he spent a “difficult” childhood living with various relatives, according to the Post Chronicle. Maguire added: “I feel like you could drop me anywhere in the world, anonymously, and I’d figure out how to survive. If you stripped away everything I’ve got - the money, the fame, the possessions, everything - I know that I’d find a way to get along, because, basically, that’s what I’ve had to do all my life.” Maguire’s latest film, the wildly anticipated “Spider-Man 3” hits theaters May 4, 2007.
