Tinseltown Preps For 2008 Academy Awards

It’s the Friday before the Academy Awards and Hollywood is abuzz with celebrities, stylists, and fans counting down the minutes until it’s Oscar time.

Considered to be the Holy Grail of awards shows, the Academy Awards have more pomp and circumstance than any other event of the kind. And stars like Denzel Washington and Hilary Swank have been spotted this week rehearsing their lines and preparing for the big night.

One of the hallmarks of Oscar night is the red carpet arrival. And for Hollywood’s elite, their look is just as important as whether or not they go home with a trophy.

Anticipating their clients’ needs, celebrity stylists are running all over town trying to ensure the best selection of accessories and outfits. After all, A-listers have to show up at the Kodak Theatre looking their best.

Beverly Hills jeweler Neil Lane talked about the popular practice of stars borrowing jewelry for events such as the Oscars. “A star could not buy enough jewelry to accessorize every red carpet she does. Now because everything is a fashion statement, everything is an accessory to be looked at. Every detail is looked at. If she wore that (piece) last time, she’d get ridiculed.”
