Sunday, April 08, 2007 The Sopranos and Entourage Return To HBO
At long last, The Sopranos is back, but the return is bittersweet. After several false alarms, it seems that the end of the trend-setting mobster series is finally upon us. The final season of the Emmy-winning drama begins tonight on HBO (9 pm EST). To bring everyone up to date, the last episode ended with Tony, Carmela and the family sitting around the fire at Christmas, similar to something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The closing shot seemed a little out of place, considering the drama of prior episodes: Tony getting shot, Vito coming out and getting whacked, Christopher picking up his drug habit again, and so on. Michael Imperioli, who returns as Christopher Moltisanti, says, “It’ll be sad to end the show, but the timing is right.” The NY Times gives a glimpse into the final season, stating the first episode “opens with the police at the door, a rapping that prompts Carmela to exclaim, ‘Is this it?’ It isn’t, at least not yet. It’s a gun possession charge that Tony’s lawyer easily sets aside. The arrest doesn’t even prevent Tony and Carmela from driving to his sister Janice and brother-in-law Bobby’s lake house in upstate New York to celebrate Tony’s 47th birthday, and to do some business on the other side of the Canadian border.” “Christopher, meanwhile, is pursuing show business by producing a gangster-slasher film, “Cleaver,” that he made with Tony’s money. And Johnny Sack, still in prison, has a new set of problems behind bars,” the Times reports. The Sopranos will be followed up at 10 pm with a new episode of Entourage. This series only adds to the excitement surrounding the return of The Sopranos. It’s the continuation of the third season, that saw Vince (Adrian Grenier) become a top-grossing big screen actor. He also had been showing signs of becoming an indecisive superstar, whose burgeoning ego allowed film roles to slip away. In the end, he dumped Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) as his agent. The new episodes should show if his saucy new agent gets him better roles… and helps Johnny Drama, too. Catch up on The Sopranos in 7 minutes (R- Language):
