The Obamas’ First Dance

It has been building up for weeks now, and last night Barack Obama and his wife Michelle had their first dance as President and First Lady.

Following an amazing Inauguration Day, the new President of the United States donned a black tuxedo with a white bowtie and escorted his wife (in a one-shoulder frilly cream-colored dress) out to the dance floor.

And of course, Beyonce Knowles served as chanteuse for the magical moment, singing her own version of Etta James’ classic “At Last.”

Barack represented Hawaii and Michelle represented Illinois at the Home State Inaugural Ball, held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

SOME FASHION ISSUES:
I just wish Michelle had had this new designer shorten her gown a tad so that she could dance with her husband properly. Or leave off that blasted train completely--after all it was a BALL! All night she was pulling the dress away from the back and it was ungainly and awkward in what should have been an enchanted moment for the whole nation…
Also wish she’d worn black gloves and shoes with her yellow outfit. Would’ve looked more elegant.
And finally, WHY wear a pretty, but glorified, house dress to the formal service at the National Cathedral? All the other women had on suites and were properly dressed, and Michelle looked like she was off to a picnic. Big missteps for an otherwise really well-dressed woman with a lot of style. Come on girl, get it together!
