Tuesday, June 03, 2008 Tatum O’Neal Steps Out Following Drug Arrest
After recently being arrested for buying cocaine in New York City, Tatum O’Neal was spotted leaving her apartment in the Lower East Side of Manhattan on Tuesday morning (June 3). The 44-year-old actress, who’s due back in court on July 28th to face a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, has already spoken to press following the incident - saying that this arrest helped save her. “I’m still sober!” O’Neal rejoiced to New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser during a phone call shortly after being released from police custody on Monday. “Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came and saved me! I was saved by the bell, by the guys in the Seventh Precinct,” she added. Continuing on, O’Neal explained that she tried to get the drugs to ease the grief of losing her 16-year-old Scottish terrier, telling: “I couldn’t get out of it. I was going to my psychiatrist. I was doing everything I could do. ... One day, I’m walking aimlessly. I found myself doing the wrong thing.” Finally, explaining her short 18-hour stay behind bars, Tatum told: “I slept on a mattress with a couple of ladies because I was tired. ... And I thought the thing that was cool about New York, no special treatment. No special cell. It wasn’t that horrible. I think it’s worse for the people that don’t have a lawyer to get them out.” Enjoy the pictures of Tatum O’Neal leaving her NYC apartment (June 3).
