Snoop Dogg Faces Gun and Drug Felonies

Stemming from incidents occurring late last year, rap star Snoop Dogg was charged Tuesday (April 10) with gun possession by a convicted felon and a marijuana-related drug charge, prosecutors announced.

The 35-year-old, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, is scheduled to be arraigned on the two felony counts this morning (April 11). The arraignment is to take place in a Pasadena Superior Court, according to Los Angeles County district attorney’s office spokeswoman Jane Robison.

The LA Times notes that “the charges stem from Snoop’s arrest on October 26 at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank on suspicion of transportation of a controlled substance. Burbank police later executed a search warrant at the rapper’s home in Diamond Bar, where they discovered the gun. He was arrested again Nov. 28, just after he finished taping an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.’”

These charges are no small matter, especially with Snoop’s rap sheet (no pun intended). If convicted on both charges, Dogg faces up to 4 years in state prison. He was previously convicted in 1990 of felony drug possession and possession for sale, prosecutors said.

To top things off, Snoop Dogg has another case pending after being charged with possession of a deadly weapon at John Wayne Airport in September, when a collapsible police baton was found in his computer bag. Whether or not an indictment for this incident will be brought forward is not yet known. Either way, it surely won’t help with the latest charges.
