Sir Elton John’s Birthday Bash At MSG

Sir Elton John is making the final preparations for a sold-out show tonight (March 25) at Madison Square Garden. This isn’t your everyday concert, though, as the pop legend will be celebrating his 60th birthday with his record-setting 60th MSG performance.

Born as Reg Dwight in London on March 25, 1947, Elton has long been a crowd favorite at the coveted venue.

“There are very few artists that could even think of setting a record like this, let alone achieve it,” said Jay Marciano, president of MSG Entertainment.

According to AP insiders, “The concert will be recorded and broadcast April 5 as a two-hour special on MyNetworkTV, a mini-network on Fox stations.”

Owning the record since 2001, with his 53rd performance, Sir Elton continues to break the record every time he plays at MSG. Previously, the Grateful Dead held the record, playing there 52 times.

The flamboyant singer also recently announced “he would make his back catalog of more than 30 albums released over 40 years available for digital download, a move that also coincided with the release of a new compilation album, ‘Rocket Man.’”

The newly remastered albums include John’s 1969 debut, ‘Empty Sky,’ and fan favorites such as ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ and ‘Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.’ The tracks, more than 400 in all, will be available to download this Monday (March 26).
