Making a change in career paths, Simon Cowell has announced he's quitting his "American Idol" duties when the new season ends in May of 2010.
The move comes amidst growing speculation that the music mogul's future on the show was uncertain, as his brother Tony revealed a statement would be made in the early part of 2010.
He said, "A press statement is being prepared which will confirm what everybody expected: Simon will leave Idol at the end of 2010 to concentrate on bringing the American version of (U.K. talent show) X Factor to U.S. TV in 2011."
In his just released statement, Cowell reveals he, indeed, plans to launch his "X Factor" show on U.S. television in 2011.
Meanwhile, the new season of "American Idol" featuring new judge Ellen DeGeneres kicks off on FOX on January 12th.
