Scarlett Johansson In South Pacific?
Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has induced reports that she may star in the New York City production of South Pacific, after declaring her love for the musical during a recent interview.
The New York Post had previously reported that Johansson was in talks to play US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush in a revival of the musical at the Lincoln Center, which is scheduled to open in January 2008.
In an interview with Glamour magazine, Johansson confessed that she’s a huge fan of the Rodgers And Hammerstein show. The “Match Point” star also made it clear that she has a problem with the heroine’s surname, which shares a similarity to US President George W. Bush.
She remarked, “I’ve thought about it (playing Nellie). Wouldn’t it be great?”
“Though I’d have to be named ‘For Bush’, which I don’t think I could stomach.”
Meanwhile, Scarlett has six films in the works (in addition to The Nanny Diaries, which just got pushed from April to September), along with an album in the works, so finding the time to do theater may be the biggest obstacle.
A few days ago the always busy Johansson was spotted going through security at LAX, sporting her Yankee’s cap.
