Thursday, April 05, 2007 Richard Gere In “The Hoax”
‘The Hoax’ is a new comedic-drama due to hit theaters on April 13th. The film details the story of Clifford Irving’s selling of his bogus biography on Howard Hughes to a premiere publishing house in the early 1970s.
In what would cause a fantastic media frenzy, ‘The Hoax’ is in reference to Irving’s supposed autobiography on Howard Hughes (which never actually existed). While Irving’s autobiography of Hughes was hatched up in his own mind, some of the stories involving Richard Nixon and bribery are said to have sprung as a result of the non-existent Hughes bio.
Irving claims that Nixon’s henchmen were looking for the “personal files of Howard Hughes” that Irving pretended to have when they were caught breaking into the Democratic National Convention headquarters. Clifford Irving is played by Richard Gere in the film, and other supporting roles include Alfred Molina, Julie Delpy, Hope Davis, Stanley Tucci, Eli Wallach, and Marcia Gay Harden.
