Thursday, September 27, 2007 Phil Spector’s Mistrial
In today’s edition of Celebrity Justice, we have an update on the Phil Spector murder case. It seems that the jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision, hence leading to a verdict of “mistrial.” The twelve-person jury deliberated for an arduous twelve days, and in the end they found themselves in 10-2 deadlock. According to a court representative the majority of the jurors believed Spector was indeed guilty, however the remaining two jurors kept the guilty verdict from being handed down. Steve Cooley, the district attorney for Los Angeles told press, “We are disappointed the jury was unable to reach a verdict. We will seek the court’s permission to re-try the case and begin immediately to prepare for a re-trial.” For those of you not up to speed on the 67-year-old music producer’s trial for murder, here’s a quick rundown. Phil was charged with shooting and killing an actress named Lana Clarkson on February 3, 2003. He claims it was suicide, but there was evidence that there was foul play.
