Pete Doherty Taken Into Police Custody

Pete Doherty was arrested earlier today on suspicion of drug possession. The arrest for possession followed cops stopping Doherty and two companions as they drove through Tower Hamlets in east London.

Pete had been performing at the V Festival in Staffordshire late on Sunday with his band Babyshambles prior to his arrest; and the new charges are not going to help Pete as he tries to revitalize his career, which has taken a nose dive since breaking up with model Kate Moss.

The new drug charges are sure to create additional stress on Doherty, as he was already dealing with a previous drug conviction. The singer pleaded guilty in July to possessing crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine.

The magistrate for the previous arrest had stated to Doherty that if he did not clean up his act and stop using drugs, he would be looking at jail time. With the current legal pendulum swinging back and forth in celebrity related sentencing, it will be interesting to see how Pete’s latest legal snafu gets handled.
