Pete Doherty Gets Released On Technicality

He’s been in all kinds of legal trouble for his drug use, but yesterday Pete Doherty beat the system on a technicality.

The Babyshambles singer was arrested Monday in east London on suspicion of possessing drugs.  The arrest was a clear violation of his probation, and therefore he was in danger of going to jail.

But his bail breaching charges were dropped because of a failure on the part of the court to bring him in within 24 hours.  Prosecutor Anjulika Vatish made the case for Doherty, and got him off on the technicality.

But Pete isn’t out of the woods yet.  He still has to prove his desire to stop using drugs in order to avoid a jail sentence for previous offenses.
