One Year After Heath Ledger’s Death
Last year, on this day, the whole world was rocked with the news that beloved actor Heath Ledger was gone, the result of an accidental prescription drug overdose. And one year later, the effects are still lingering.
The “Brokeback Mountain” star has been winning posthumous awards for his role as the Joker in “The Dark Knight,” a sobering reminder of how well he had honed his craft.
Back on January 22nd of 2008, there was almost an air of disbelief as Ledger’s lifeless body was taken from the fourth floor SoHo apartment (owned by Mary Kate Olsen) where he was found dead. And the fallout had just begun.
The next day, Ledger’s parents Sally and Kim released a statement about their son’s “tragic, untimely and accidental passing,” calling him “a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving, and selfless individual.”
As for Michelle Williams, Heath’s ex-fiancée and the mother of his daughter Matilda, she became reclusive, issuing the statement, “My heart is broken. I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up with the best memories of him.”
With the sting of tragedy still fresh, today the world mourns one year without Heath Ledger.
