Nicole Richie and Joel Madden: Calm and Collected

Amidst all of the media attention surrounding the Benji/Paris breakup news, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden were spotted enjoying a sushi lunch in the San Fernando Valley yesterday afternoon (November 19).

The “Simple Life” starlet and her “I Don’t Wanna Fall in Love” boyfriend looked cool and casual as they passed the paparazzi, with Nicole sporting a blue printed top, jeans, and sandals, while Joel deviated from his usual all-black ensemble with a grey plaid button-up shirt overtop a grey t-shirt.

And in the wake of the big breakup between Miss Hilton and Joel’s brother Benji Madden, there’s speculation that Nicole’s disapproval may have had something to do with it.

FOX Pop Tarts reports that though she denied any ill feelings, Richie never really approved of her childhood friend dating her babydaddy’s twin.

This, along with reports of ill feelings over Paris getting chummy with British Royal Prince William, are among the early theories as to why the relationship didn’t work out - although those closest to the situation simply tell that they were just two very different people and the intrigue wore off.
