New York Loves Joss Stone

Some of the coolest things about being in New York City in the summertime are the concerts held in Central Park. Each year, the city puts on a series of special events called SummerStage that includes local acts and national touring talent. This past weekend, Joss Stone graced the SummerStage.

The 20-year-old English crooner wowed audiences with her mature beyond her years voice and stage presence. Always the consummate performer, Stone brought her A-game and put on a show that beckoned the spirits of Aretha Franklin and Al Green.

Joss has decided her favorite music was made in the United States years before she was born: soul from about 1964 to 1974. While her albums use hip hop tracks and drum samples, her real heart is in soul music.

And she showed up in Central Park complete with a backup band, horn section and singers to help her pull off one inspiring show. Joining her was rapper Common. If you get a chance to see this girl in concert, don’t miss it.
