Friday, September 21, 2007 Mariah Carey, Bill Clinton Honored By Save The Music
Last night was a big night in the life of pop singer Mariah Carey. She was honored by VH1’s Save The Music Foundation at their 10th annual gala. And the “We Belong Together” singer said that the choice to work with the foundation was an obvious one, being that music literally saved her life. She said, “Music has always been my saving grace. Like everyone growing up, my life wasn’t easy. I don’t always like to talk about it in great detail, but music saved my life literally. Writing songs and singing is so therapeutic for me.” Former President Bill Clinton was also there to accept an award on behalf of himself and his wife. He stressed the importance of music in his own life, even leading up to his presidency. “I don’t think I would have become president of the United States if I did not have the gift of school music when I was a boy.”
The Save the Music Foundation was started back in 1997 as a way to fund the donation of instruments to public schools that cannot afford to purchase them.
