Madonna Premieres “I Am Because We Are”

Madonna was out in New York City earlier today (April 24), attending the Tribeca Film Festival world premiere of her new documentary “I Am Because We Are”.

Held at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Center, the Material Girl’s latest work shows “a look into the lives of Malawi’s 1 million plus orphans in the wake of the AIDS pandemic.”

And while she’s been focusing the majority of her energy on promoting her new documentary and recently released album, Hard Candy, Madonna recently took a moment to defend Lions For Lambs actor Tom Cruise.

Speaking about the constant ridicule he receives for his Scientology beliefs, Madge said: “I don’t care if people worship turtles or frogs - if they’re good people, that’s all I care about, and he (Cruise) is a good person.”

“I think he gets a raw deal, just as I think the orphans in Malawi get a raw deal; just as I think a lot of marginalized people get a raw deal,” she added.
