Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Kirsten Dunst Speculates On Spiderman Series
For moviegoers, the actor or actress playing the role can be as important as the role itself. Who could imagine a Harry Potter movie without Daniel Radcliffe? Or a Meet the Parents sequel without Ben Stiller? Well, with the Spiderman franchise releasing it’s third installment, there is speculation on a possible fourth. From all accounts, director Sam Raimi, and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst aren’t necessarily up for it. Will it continue in spite of them?
Dunst insists that any attempt to continue the franchise without her, Tobey - who plays the web-slinger - and director Sam Raimi would be a box-office disaster. She told Entertainment Weekly: “Audiences aren’t stupid. It’d be a big flop without me, Tobey or Sam.”
Dunst and Maguire would like to pursue other roles. According to Maguire, “I feel like this film is kind of a natural conclusion to a lot of stuff that’s happened in the first two movies. It kind of feels like a natural trilogy. I’m not going to make more just because they’ve been successful.” Meanwhile, Raimi is rumored to be in the running to direct the film version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel “The Hobbit,” which is a prequel to the “Lord of the Rings” books. He is the first choice if New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson, who directed the Oscar-winning “Lord of the Rings” films, turns the project down. Spider Man 3 opens around the globe on May 4th. It promises to deliver on the reputation established by the two previous films! Enjoy the pictures from the April 16th Tokyo premiere below.
