Kate Winslet Fuming Over Diet Remarks; May Sue Tabloid

In an unsurprising move, Kate Winslet is planning to take legal action against a tabloid magazine over an article about her weight.

Grazia printed a story alleging that the Oscar-nominated actress was visiting a ‘diet doctor’. Seeing the Winslet has often spoken out against skinny stars and size zero models, describing the trend as “unbelievably disturbing”, she felt an obligation to respond to the claims.

The British star, who has been “lauded for her decision to remain one of the curvier A-listers,” spoke out about the issue on the red carpet at the BAFTAs.

She said that the article gave women who look up to her as a role model the wrong impression… especially after a Brazilian model recently died of anorexia.

Reported by Bosh, Winslet told reporters on Sunday: “I will continue to say what I feel about this issue of women being thin and emaciated. It’s just out of control. I know I’m a role model to young women. It’s a role that I take very, very seriously and I would never want anyone to ever think I was a hypocrite in doing something like going to a diet doctor, for goodness sake. I mean, it’s really, really ridiculous...I’m going to fight for myself. I don’t want people thinking that I would ever go to a diet doctor, I would ever buy into that stuff. I never have done, I never will.”

Meanwhile, the skinny debate continues as London Fashion Week kicks off. The modeling industry has been facing heated criticism after refusing to follow Milan and Madrid in banning size zero models.
