Gwen Stefani Gets Charitable

It’s always cool to see the big time celebrities remembering those who are less fortunate than themselves.  And in the wake of the horrific California wildfires’ destruction, Gwen Stefani is stepping up to make a difference.

The “Hey Baby” singer has reportedly initiated a charity effort to provide college scholarships for students that were displaced or disadvantaged by the natural disasters.

She told press, “When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my [San Diego] show out of respect.  But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution.”

From that line of thinking was birthed the Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarship, with the goal of helping students who lost their homes or livelihood due to the fires.
In addition, the “Wind It Up” girl chipped in around $160,000 from her San Diego gig back on October 30th.  The remaining details are still being finalized.

ahh.. is that really an ‘in demand’ charity.  most of the people who lost their homes in california live out in areas where they can afford school tuitions.  i mean, great job with the initiative...but maybe the wildlife preserve could use it more?
