Tuesday, February 24, 2009 George Clooney’s Sit-Down with Obama
He’s always been a voice for ending the violence in Darfur, and yesterday George Clooney had a one-on-one meeting with President Barack Obama regarding the US involvement in the humanitarian crisis. The “Ocean’s Thirteen” actor reportedly met privately with Obama, as well as Vice President Joe Biden, in separate meetings to convince them to take action, according to FOX News. Clooney reportedly requested a high-profile, full-time envoy to be deployed to the Darfur region once the administration has set a full foreign policy agenda. He also brought with him 250,000 postcards from American citizens who wanted to end the violence in the region. George told press, “It’s not about government money or government troops; it’s about involvement and diplomacy ... I think that the truth is what has to happen is we have to begin to isolate the government of Khartoum. We have to make it known that the actions of this government are not acceptable.”
