Friday, April 06, 2007 George Clooney’s $20 Lemonade
A group of grade schoolers in Tobaccoville, North Carolina decided to setup a lemonade stand on their spring break to earn a little extra cash. The children were said to have had the hottest real estate in town—a spot of grass right outside of the entrance to George Clooney’s movie set.
The Hollywood star paid $20 for a glass of lemonade (the going rate was 25 cents), and didn’t want any change. This left Carter, Chandler, and Chase Fontaine shocked to see a $20 bill in their jar.
Clooney has been in North and South Carolina shooting scenes for the upcoming film “Leatherheads”, which he is directing and staring in. Additional cast members include John Krasinski, and Renee Zellweger. The plot of the movie revolves around the early days of professional football, and has a December release date. The mother of the three boys selling lemonade had offered the refreshing beverage to Clooney for free. It is worth mentioning here that he posed for pictures with Mrs. Fontaine and other women prior to approaching the lemonade stand. Despite the gracious offer, Clooney insisted that he pay just as everyone else.
Regardless of Clooney’s intentions (publicity or good will), the Fontaine boys really appreciated the visit. Shortly after Clooney left the stand, Carter made a sign that said “Goerge Clooney was here!” and put it in the road next to the stand.
