Monday, June 23, 2008 George Carlin Passes Away at 71
Long before Dane Cook and Chris Rock ever thought about taking the stage, there was another comedian who paved the way with his envelope-pushing ways named George Carlin. And according to reports, Carlin passed away at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California yesterday (Sunday June 22nd) at the age of 71, the result of heart failure. He had battled heart problems in the past, including a previous heart attack. Perhaps known best for his “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television” routine, George made a habit of seeing how much he could get away with, eventually ending up in the Supreme Court for his antics. But that didn’t stop him. Back in 2005, Carlin told Playboy magazine how he envisioned Heaven. “The world is a big theater-in-the round as far as I’m concerned, and I’d love to watch it spin itself into oblivion. Tune in and watch the human adventure .... That’s what I want heaven to be.” Below are pictures of George out in Brentwood, CA last month (May 26).
