Sunday, March 11, 2007 Foxx and Blige Lead Soul Train Award Winners
Another awards show has come and gone. Last night, the Soul Train Awards saw top honors bestowed upon Mary J Blige and Jamie Foxx.
Disappointingly for show producers, neither turned up to collect their awards at the ceremony held in Pasadena, California, on Saturday.
Meanwhile, The Isley Brothers, who won best album by a group for Baby Makin’ Music, were in attendance and Ronald Isley even performed a tribute to the late James Brown. This is especially interesting as Ronald is currently waiting to begin a 37-month prison sentence for tax evasion. Other Soul Train winners included Beyonce, who nabbed best single by a female for Irreplaceable, and John Legend, whose song Save Room took the male best single award.
Finally, Gnarls Barkley won best single by a group for Crazy, Ne-Yo was named best new R&B, soul or rap artist and Jay-Z took the Michael Jackson Award for best video for Show Me What You Got.
“I just can’t believe I got the Sammy Davis Jr Award,” she said. “I’m standing on the same stage where I made the top 32 of American Idol.” Other honorary tributes went to Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, who was presented with the Stevie Wonder Award for outstanding career achievement in song-writing, and Jermaine Dupri, who got the Quincy Jones Award for outstanding career achievements.
