It has been a rough decade for Renny Harlin, with projects such as The Covenant and Mindhunters flopping, thus receiving banishment to Hollywood B-List obscurity. However, based upon initial insider reviews it appears that Renny has once again found the right formula in his new crime drama Cleaner.
Cleaner was billed as the Gala presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival. And a strong storyline, accompanied by star performances, allowed Cleaner to show well in front of prospective movie distributors.
Portraying a retired police detective, Samuel L. Jackson plays a man who thought he had seen everything humanity could throw at him, but as the owner of a company that comes in after the cops are done and cleans up crime scenes, he is about to learn that he is just scratching the surface of humanity's capacity for evil.
Jackson’s ex-police officer sidekick in Cleaner is played by Ed Harris, who provides a strong verbal sparring partner as they're thrown violently back together after a missing person request has been filed. The grieving wife is played by Eve Mendes, who once again uses both her skill and charm to connect with the audience as the whodunnit mystery is revealed.
