Friday, July 20, 2007 Emmy Nominations Announced
Every year, there’s a collective anticipation among television networks right before the Emmy nominations are announced. And this year, HBO is the big winner. The cable television network Home Box Office is leading the pack with 86 nominations. Their top show, The Sopranos, is out ahead of the pack with a total of 15 nominations. ABC, NBC, and CBS follow in HBO’s shadow with 70,69, and 44 nominations, respectively. ABC’s 2nd place spot is largely due to newcomer “Ugly Betty” with a freshman showing of 11 nods. NBC’s top shows, 30 Rock and Heroes garnered 10 and 8 nominations respectively. While it’s not a horrible showing for the non-cable networks, it must be frustrating to have HBO kicking their butts. Of course, James Gandolfini, Hugh Laurie, Steve Carell, and Keifer Sutherland are among the most desirable Emmy men this time around. The ladies include, America Ferrera, Tina Fey and Felicity Huffman. The trophies are scheduled to be given out on September 16th, so be sure to watch and see who the big winners are.
