Friday, August 17, 2007 Eddie Murphy and Mel B Sue Each Other
The next installment of drama surrounding Eddie Murphy and Mel B’s past relationship involves another lawsuit. However, this time it’s Eddie suing Mel, claiming extortion and defamation. The heart of the argument revolves around a difference of opinions concerning Eddie’s legal responsibilities to the child he fathered, as well as how Mel is releasing information to the media regarding the situation.
According to the comedian’s legal team, they have issued a cease and desist letter against Brown, demanding that she stops using his name during interviews. And insiders add that Murphy feels that Mel has been making “disparaging, negative and defamatory statements” and making highly “unreasonable extortionate demands” regarding the care of their daughter Angel Iris. Murphy’s legal team also explained that the actor felt extorted by Mel’s attempt to get him to pay $9 million to purchase a home. The plan is that Mel and her daughter, Angel, are to live at the house until Angel turns 18 years old, which is when Angel is no longer a minor and considered part of Eddie’s legal responsibility. Mel has repeatedly given media interviews in which she has claimed that the Norbit actor not only initial refused to admit to his relationship with Angel, but that he has not paid a single penny for her care. Murphy’s camp quickly shot back: “We demand that you immediately cease and desist from this wrongful conduct.”
Stay tuned for more developments in what looks to be another sad case of bickering, ultimately hurting the child in the end.
