David Beckham Gets A Haircut, Talks Paparazzi
When you move to a new country, there are all kinds of cultural and social adjustments that must be made. But one thing that David Beckham hasn’t gotten used to yet is the American paparazzi’s rabid appetite for celebrity photographs.
Though he’s only been here a short time, Becks says that the media obsession here is too much. “It’s definitely over the top here in Los Angeles,” he told press. And when compared with his native land of England, he says America is much more media obsessed.
"In London, if we’d go out to dinner, there would be four or five cars following us. The other night we had 47. No joke. I get nervous. They run red lights and you’re just waiting for accidents to happen.”
In order to keep his family safe and sound in their new home, Becks has hired a team of guards, including ex-CIA agents to monitor his family around the clock. But David says it’s worth it when he hits the field and brings his A-game to American fans.
Of his debut game last week, Becks said, “It was great, the crowd were cheering my every move on the sideline. For one player to get that kind of reception is unusual, but pretty amazing.”
