Thursday, October 18, 2007 Cockatoo Dances To The Backstreet Boys
An 11-year old cockatoo named Snowball is drawing all kinds of attention to the Bird Lovers Only Rescue group. In an instant YouTube classic, Snowball is seen lifting his legs, squawking and bobbing his head to the Backstreet Boys 1997 tune “Everybody”. According to reports, “When the cockatoo was given to a bird rescue shelter a few months ago, the man included the boy band’s album and instructions to watch his reaction.” Irena Schulz, who runs the bird rescue group that takes care of Snowball, told On Deadline, “We had a dance instructor e-mail us and she was saying ... this isn’t possible for a bird to dance better than humans.”
“But,” Schulz tells, “there’s no way to fake the dancing in footage that was shot by the TV reporters who came out to watch Snowball break it down to the Backstreet Boys. He just boogied, for lack of a better term.”

Thanks for taking note that Snowball is at a parrot rescue. This singing & dancing bird was relinquished likely because birds are demanding, very loud, messy, expensive to keep, require special foods, & they bite! Not all birds will dance & talk. Parrots are long-lived & one of the most difficult animals to keep. They are wild animals, not domesticated. Birds need socialization, time out of their cages, flight, toys, proper perches, avian veterinarians, & a nontoxic environment. Snowball’s former guardian found him too much to deal with, & is not alone! Thousands of birds are in rescues & languishing in basements, garages, etc because their guardians were not prepared for a sexually mature parrot. Birds are often bred in mills or large commercial breeding operations. Good rescues such as Project Perry & Foster Parrots often are filled to capacity.
