Thursday, November 08, 2007 CMA Awards Boasts Big Winners
Hold on to your ten gallon hat! The CMA Awards hit Nashville Wednesday night, and there was a variety of winners taking home trophies. Rascal Flatts garnered the award for Top Vocal Group. Along with a group performance of “Still Feels Good,” vocalist Gary LeVox hooked up with Jamie Foxx for a duet of “She Goes All the Way.” Sugarland was another big winner, snatching the Vocal Duo award out of Brooks & Dunn’s hands. B&D have won the award 14 of the past 15 years, including the last six years consecutively. And they were gracious winners. Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles said, “If we’re standing up here, we have this lofty view because we’re standing on the shoulders of giants who’ve come before us.” Seventeen-year-old Taylor Swift took home the Horizon Award given to the most promising newcomer of the year. And George Strait was honored with the Top Album trophy for “It Just Comes Natural.”
Of the record, Strait said, “We had great material and just kept knocking them out. We ended up with 15 songs and never intended to put 15 songs on the record, but when I started going through the songs there was none I could take off.” He also won Song of the Year for “Give It Away.”
