Britney’s “Blackout” Burns Up Charts

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past year, you’re probably aware of Britney Spears’ hellish public image.  But that’s not stopping her from selling a boatload of records.

Blackout is the fifth studio release from the troubled singer, and it’s set to be her fifth consecutive #1 album.  On its first day of release, Blackout moved more than 124,000 units.  Not bad, eh?

Well, not as good as her earlier albums, either.  “In the Zone” sold 609,000 in its first week, while Jive/Zomba estimates that Blackout will sell between 330,000 and 350,000 by next week.

Nevertheless, only Brit could pull off this kind of quasi-comeback, especially considering all the horrible press that she’s been getting as of late.  Maybe it’ll be more of a slow and steady album, rather than an instant success.  We’ll have to wait and see.
