Britney Spears’ VMA Performance: Mixed Reviews
She was all set to wow America and the World over with her comeback performance of “Gimme More” at the MTV Video Music Awards. But did Britney Spears bring her A-game, or was it more of a “Gimme Less” moment?
The Toxic singer opened the 2007 VMAs live from Las Vegas with a declaration that she had, indeed, arrived. “It’s Britney, B**ch!” resonated throughout the venue as a Euro-pop-ish drum sequence initiated the “Gimme More” groove.
But from there the reviews are mixed as to whether or not Britney seized the moment to re-initiate herself into pop stardom. First of all, where was Criss Angel? We were told for weeks about this amazing stage show that Brit and Criss were preparing during a series of late-night hotel rendezvous.
And in place of the disappearing mirrors bit was a stripper pole-laden, pelvic thrust-filled dance routine including a dozen or so dancers taking turns rubbing up on the mother of two. Even Britney herself looked distracted and nervous throughout the musical number.
As usual, the Lucky girl wore a headset mic but was obviously lip-synching. And the celebrity onlookers didn’t appear to be impressed. There were constant audience shots with stars like P. Diddy and 50 Cent looking both uninterested and amused.
As for the positives, Britney looked pretty darn good, especially given the fact that’s she’s had two kids. There’s no doubt she’s been going through the year from hell, so you gotta hand it to her for showing up and giving it a go. Will it be the boost she needs to kick start her career again? Only time will tell.

I think the girl skipped rehearsal one too many times. Anyone else notice the horrible hair and fake blue eyes? Paris Hilton much?

It is so nice to see some one have a positive out look on this situation! To be honest I think everyone involved with the VMAs this year should try to forget that the night ever happened! It was by far one of the worst things I have ever seen! This def. makes Glitter look like a great movie! Brit needs work, she looked so scared up on stage. I was sad to see Criss Angel not be part of the act. But the whole night was a disaster so Brit go on with your bad self no one will remember they were all trashed clearly! It was a mess of a night...Maybe Vegas was a bad idea good thing what happens there stays there!!

But that’s just the thing… people didn’ tune in to the VMA’s for a “not bad” performance. This was supposed to be her comeback, and with all of the hype surrounding her performance… it was a huge let down. By comparison: imagine showing up to a wedding, and in place of the gorgeous 7 tiered cake you expected, on the platter lies a twinkie. I mean, twinkies are great and everything but… whaat?

I THINK SHE MIGHT HAVE BEEN VERY NERVOUS AND ALSO HUMBLED, B/C OF THE STORM SHE’S BEEN THROUGH. MIGHT SEEM AS SHE DIDN’T CARE TO BE THERE. BUT I BET IS THE BEGINNING OF A FUTURE BUILD UP. SHE WILL EVENTUALLY REALLY MAKE HER COME BACK AT THE APPROPIATE MOMENT -AND- PLACE. ----- JUST WATCH.

Whoever wrote this article needs to watch the performance again. Britney Spears looked like a complete joke. Every person that I’ve talked to so far who has watched the performance agrees that she is fat and definitely should fire whoever told her that it was ok for her to wear that bikini outfit. Simply put, she looked ridiculous and is slowly killing her career. She should hit the gym before deciding to make a “comeback.” I never comment on blogs or sites like this, but I was compelled to do so after seeing that somebody had the audacity to say that she looked “pretty darn good.” What was with her shi**y a** extensions/weave thing in her hair?

When your a performer, you have to bring your best, and Britney didn’t. It has nothing to do with what she’s going through, that shouldn’t effect her performance what so ever. Just like a normal persons personal life shouldn’t effect their performance at work. “Leave everything at the door,” thats what my teachers in high school told me years ago.

IT WAS A TRAIN WRECK! EITHER SHE NEEDS TO STOP TAKING DRUGS OR START. IT WAS SAD FOR HER BUT AMUSING FOR ME OUNCE I GOT OVER THE SHOCK AND EMBARRASSMENT I HAD FOR HER. I PERSONALLY FEEL DISRESPECTED BY THAT PERFORMANCE. I KNOW I SOUND MEAN BUT SHE HAS NO TALENT SHE IS AN OVER PAID STRIPER. WHEN MARIAH CAREY MADE I A COMEBACK I WAS ALL FOR IT BECAUSE MARIAH CAN ACTUAL SING. MTV TO BRITNEY: DONT BE TOO CONTROVERSIAL
Britney Spears was to perform under the magic of Chris Angel… but MTV freaked out at the last minute finding out what Britney was actually going to do.
Supposidly, what Britney and Chris were planning was to do a set of mirrors and flotation. But when told to the Palms Hotel/Casino… the hotel flipped.
Insurance was the main problem, and the stage couldn’t support the performance. MTV also freaked at the last minute because of their fear of being “too controversial” during the performance. Britney and Chris were infact furious with MTV’s sad excuse and told Britney to change the performance at the last minute.Britney’s original performance was to infact appear and disappear. To float through the air… and for much mature dancing.

wow… such an embarrasment! i was really pulling for her! hollywood is a trip, and everyone is coming down on her, but she has to live up to something if she’s going to hang in there. i don’t think that she even tried! .... well… so much for her “big comeback”... and as far as the comments made by the comedian, she hit it right on the nail!

I think she look good for having two kids .. whatevey happen .. you need to work more so you can get back Dont give up god is looking out for you just be a good mom and keep your head up .Your kids come first… Britney i know you can dance what happen .. you just open up more goosip ,stay home and get your life together ....

I am tired of all of the Britney bashing. All of the nasty comments by the morning news shows and Sarah Silverman’s insults were rude, nasty and very unnecessary but I guess these news shows and Sarah Silverman count on bashing others to get ratings instead of offering real talent and real news. Regardless of what people expected, Britney still looked amazing and has made a great comeback. Perhaps her comeback did not fit into your preconceived notions but it was still a great comeback considering where she was last year. If any of you nasty and hurtful people think that you can do better maybe you should contact MTV to open the show next year. Small minded insecure people bash others to make themselves feel better.

Britney Spears’ performance, if you could even call it that, was the most disgusting/dissapointing thing i have ever seen. Who the hell opens for the VMAs with that bullsh*t. Number one she looked like a whale, i dont care if u had two kids if ur that fat put some f**kin clothes on. If i wanted to see that,i wouldve asked queen latifah to put on some underwear on, get on stage, and hump some little white back up dancers. Number two where the f**k were the criss angel magic tricks. I feel cheated out of a good preformance...shes ruined her career.

Her hair extensions were nasty and her nails...she did not even feel like getting a manicure done! One of her fake nails is missing!!! GOSH!!!
She just does not freaking care any more!

Ok first off she did a good job second off she looks pretty damn good for having two kids. Give her a break for god sakes YOU ALL ARENT PERFECT SO COOL IT. next everyone compares her to kevin SHe is a saint compared to him she made in the music world by herself kevin had to divorce her take her money she worked hard earning to get a time or day in music. Britney did a great job. I give her credit she is not fat and she is not a skelton like paris hiltion THANK GOD FOR THAT i cant stand paris hilton

Britney needs to go snort some more coke, have another unwanted baby by another nobody backup dancer, and quit pretending that she actually has some freaking talent!!!!!! Maybe she’ll feel SOOOOOO BAD about all of these atrocious reviews that she’ll do the whole world a favor and finally off herself. And I do not feel one bit sad in saying that!

I was highly dissapointed when I saw her performance, but if you watch again and look real close, you can see her heel broke. She danced pretty damn well for having that high of a heel broken off one of her shoes. Aside from that, the lip syncing was TERRIBLE. Her outfit was totally unflattering -lets face it, she’s not exactly what you would call fit, and a body like that should be covered up a little more. Her weave was a mess, but her makeup was nice at least.
If you’ve seen the rehearsal video, she did a lot better then, and she looked a alot better with her ass covered up and a hat covering that hideous weave.
Anyways, this was definitley a let down performance -so much for a come back, and I doubt we will see her performing again anytime soon as she is probably hiding in shame somewhere.

I play in a rock band myself, and even on a bad night, have never embarassed myself or my bandmates that badly. To call her a professional performer would only be to say she’s been paid to do her thing on stage. What she did was far from professional. No excuses. I know what it’s like to have an “off night” but cripes… When I do a show it’s 30-40 songs in one night we have to perform correctly. She only had to do one!?!?!?! And to put it bluntly, LIP SYNCING IS NOT A TALENT WORTH PAYING MONEY TO SEE!!!!!!!! The record companies wonder why they aren’t selling many records anymore?!? Lack of talent.... that’s why. And this proves it. A live performance is just that.. no tape.. no lip sync.. live what you see/hear is what there is. I hope this is finally the end of her. Let someone who has talent get her contract it’s time for her to retire.

Generally, I like Brittany. However, this was definitely not her best performance. She didn’t look like she was into it at all. At the beginning it looked like she was laughing b/c she either forgot something, or was embarrassed. I know everyone keeps saying she’s fat, but hell she’s had 2 kids, I’d like to see them after two kids. I don’t think she’s fat, I just think that if she’s going to wear something like that on national tv she needs to tone up a bit. And thank God for airbrush tanning, that stuff can do wonders.
Over all I was disappointed in the performance.It looked like she was being forced to be the 20 year old Brittany of old, but the fact is, she’s not 20, not single, and not childless anymore. She needs to find a different sound, maybe take a hint from one of her idols Madonna, she’s a mom, a great performer/singer, and she’s still edgy and hot.
Brittany needs to find out who she is, put some clothes on, and reinvent herself.

I think she looked beautiful and she did not look fat at all!!! I’d like to see someone have two children and look like that! britney looked very uncomfortable and nervous but the performance wasn’t horrible cut her some slack people she hasn’t performed in a while why don’t you try going through hard times then going back to normal!

I think Brian should squeeze two children out of his p*nis and then come talk to us about the gym. The performance was lackluster at best...but not because the woman is fat. It sucked because you don’t say, “It’s Brittany B%$#$s”, and then not follow your statement by OWNING the stage.
I’d say more to Brian, but he’s probably busy vomiting his lunch...gotta watch out for those love handles.

But yh, give her a break. She’s had a rollercoaster of a few years. BACK OFF.
And how can you forget, this girl is talented, and she has number one HIT songs, LET THIS RELEASE ON iTUNES AND THERE YOU HAVE IT. Another HIT song to her collection. GIMME MORE!
