Wednesday, August 22, 2007 Brad Pitt Helps Katrina Victims
It’s been awhile since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, virtually destroying everything in it’s path. But Brad Pitt is helping to make sure the world stays focused on the recovery of the famous city. The Oceans Thirteen actor organized and funded a campaign launched by Global Green USA to design and build environmentally friendly (and cost-effective) housing for victims of the hurricane. The winning designers, Matthew Berman and Andrew Kotchen of Workshop ADP, drew up a house that used energy-saving appliances, a cistern, toilets designed for water conservation, soy-based insulation, paperless drywall, and solar panels. When Pitt visited the house, he was very impressed. “There’s light coming in from all sides and a lot of ventilation. A lot of thought has gone into this house.” The Fight Club star and partner Angelina Jolie have themselves become locals in the Big Easy, having bought their own piece of real estate, an 1830’s mansion. “There’s so much of this culture here that is unlike any other city that we have seen,” Pitt said. “It’s a feeling that I can’t quite explain, but I love being a part of it.” Enjoy the photos of Brad out helping Katrina victims in New Orleans (August 21).
