Tuesday, March 06, 2007 Bobby Brown’s Bail Money Radio Gig Pulled
Bobby Brown’s radio gig has come to an abrupt end, with Brown denying his duties and the Washington DC radio station finally rescinding its offer to pay his back child support. The 38-year-old R&B singer spent three nights in a Massachusetts jail last week for failing to pay child support. He was released after the radio station paid the $19,150 he owed on the condition that Brown appear on “The Kane Show” for a week. He was to discuss the case and how he could turn his life around during studio appearances beginning Monday, according to the SJ Mercury News. Brown denied the employment portion of their agreement during an on-air phone conversation with his boss-to-be on Friday, hanging up on him. “That wasn’t our deal,” said Brown, who hung up after deejay Kane pressed him. “We thought we clearly communicated to Bobby our intentions, but once we had him on the air this morning it was clear that we were not on the same page,” said Kane. Both the station, which broadcasts in the DC area, and Brown’s attorney decided the deal wasn’t in the singer’s best interest and that Brown will return the money. The station then announced on its Web site during the weekend that it had withdrawn its offer to help Brown. “There are better things we can do with the money locally,” the radio station added. One question: if Bobby couldn’t come up with the money to pay to get out of jail, why would the radio station believe that he would go out of his way to pay them back? He’s obviously hard-up for cash, but hopefully they have an agreement in place, otherwise, Bobby may have just suckered them out of $19,000.
