David Beckham’s US Move: Bittersweet
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that David Beckham is planning to move to the United States this summer to take on the role of pumping up soccer in America. He’ll be joining the Los Angeles Galaxy in hopes of making the sport into the phenomena that it is everywhere else in the world. But the move is bittersweet.
The stylish soccer stud will clearly miss the camaraderie he shares with his Real Madrid teammates. Roberto Carlos, Mahamadou Diarra and Fernando Gago, were spotted joking with Beckham at a recent car event in the Spanish capital. And last week David joined some of his closest friends from the team for a gathering at one of his favorite restaurants. They presented him with an engraved silver tray and told him that he’d always have a home in Madrid.
And now Becks wants one more feat of glory before he says goodbye. “I want the league title before I go, and I’m sure we can get it now,” he says. Such confidence should help him to lead his team one last time while his wife and new home await him in the States.
And then there’s Victoria. Posh is in LA, already preparing for their move. But there’s more than a new address for the former Spice Girl. Last month, it was reported the Spice Girls had been offered $1.9 million each to reunite for a Christmas concert after the former bandmates were overheard discussing plans to stage a comeback show during David Beckham’s 32nd birthday bash. They are hoping to garner the coveted Christmas Number One spot on the UK charts once again.
